About Me
Hello, and welcome! I hope that as you read through my website you get a sense of who I am and if I am the right person to support you on this incredible and transformational journey.
I’m Lindi. I have four grown up children and am Nana to three cute little ones. I am also blessed with two grown up bonus daughters, and Mormor to their five children.
Whether you have just found out you are pregnant or well into your third trimester, I will make sure you feel confident, informed and inspired about your exciting time ahead.
So let’s start with defining what a doula is: A doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides emotional, physical, and educational support for the woman before, during, and after childbirth. We aren’t medically trained, but we can help you navigate the healthcare system and advocate for your needs and preferences during labour. Doulas also offer comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and emotional support to help you have a positive birth experience. We don’t work shifts, therefor we can give you continuity of support for the entirety of your labour and birth. A doula is also there for you during postpartum to help navigate the new and wonderful world of motherhood.
I am a passionate certified Doula & Childbirth Educator & Doula Trainer with the Norwegian Doula Association. I have decades of birthwork experience - having supported hundreds of mothers during their transformative journeys. I was born in South Africa and moved to Norway in 1994. English is my mother tongue, and I also speak fluent Norwegian. I consider myself a ‘birth activist’ because all too often one hears mothers speaking about their births as having been ‘traumatic’ or ‘a nightmare’ and it shouldn’t have to be like that at all, which is why I decided to become a professional doula. As a doula, I strive to shift that paradigm, and create a new narrative for the way that pregnancy and birth is spoken about and experienced, one birth at a time. Giving birth is hard work, but it should be an amazing and beautiful rite of passage. I honour that!
I see my role as a doula as supporting mothers through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, giving physical and emotional support, and information. Knowlege is power! I help birthing mothers and their partners discover their own capacities and confidence, enabling the best possible birth experience. I’ll be there along the way with lots of information, comfort measures, and practical help, but my biggest goal is to help parents unlock the power they already have. I am deeply committed to honouring a woman’s innate maternal wisdom and her birth choices while offering continuous, non-judgemental, emotional and physical support to expectant and labouring mothers and their partners.
Your birth has the potential to be profoundly transformative in your life. It is the right of every woman to have the birth that she desires and to make choices that are best for herself, her baby, and her family.
As your doula, I will honour your rite of passage, I will hold your birthing space. I will make sure you are treated with the respect and the dignity you deserve. I use natural pain relief techniques such as massage, touch and acupressure. I help with labour positions and optimal fetal positioning. I will encourage and support you, create a calm and peaceful atmosphere in your birthing space as baby transitions from womb to world. Natural, epidural, C-section, home birth - each birth is unique and amazing! This is your birth, I work for you and have your best interests at heart.
There are many reasons why a woman would want to have a doula supporting her. Maybe she has anxiety regarding pregnancy and birth, maybe she just wants to have as much support as possible, maybe she is a single parent, maybe she had a traumatic previous birthing experience, or personal trauma from her past. Perhaps she is hoping for a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) or she’s expecting twins, or breech.
I absolutely love being a doula. I love witnessing the tansformation in my clients as little by little throughout our time together, their whole perspective on birth changes. I am frequently told that my passion for birth is contagious. My clients go from feeling anxious to feeling totally pumped and excited for birth after my sessions with them and tell me they felt my positive energy and presence in the birthing space. What an honour! So if that’s how you’d also like to feel then let’s get chatting!
There is age-old wisdom in women helping women in childbirth.
